Blue Cross Blue Shield of MN is hiring a Principal Healthcare Analyst to support trend analysis initiatives in Eagan, MN. In this role, you will be supporting and guiding the strategic needs of the team through the application of advanced analytics to diverse business questions and initiatives. You will focus on ideation and trend analysis, working closely with the actuary team and the total cost of care team. Your role will involve analyzing healthcare trends, developing financial models, supporting rating trends and ROI analysis. You will create reliable, accurate and timely data that can be used by the business to solve and drive business solutions. The position will lead efforts cross-functionally to clarify requirements, analyze complex data, and produce and present meaningful and defensible results, including the identification of success factors and barriers, improvement opportunities, proposing solutions, and informing strategic decisions.
You will have at least 7 years of experience in analytics, with extensive experience in financial modeling, particularly in developing savings and projection models within the healthcare industry. You are able to query and analyze data independently with strong technical skills in SAS, SQL, R and Python.Actuarial experience is a plus.
This role is hybrid, 2 days a week in office, out of Eagan, MN.
A Day in the Life:
Analyze and project healthcare trends using historical and future data.
Develop and maintain financial models, including savings and projection models.
Support rate setting for groups by providing expected and anticipated trends.
Query, analyze, and present data to various audiences, including sales, marketing, finance, and executive leadership.
Identify opportunities and monitor the performance of Affordability of Care (AOC) initiatives.
Collaborate with the Actuarial team on rate setting and financial analysis.
Use multiple data sources for analysis and dissemination of information.
Performs complex analysis of data.
Researches, analyzes data, applies statistical methods when appropriate, and provides interpretation of outcomes.
Identifies issues to be researched, determining affected areas, and estimating potential impact opportunities.
Leads teams to develop analytic approaches, measurement plans, data analysis, and report results on health care utilization, expenditures, outcomes, and benchmarks.
Initiates actions to discover new analyses that will contribute to the strategic needs of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota.
Works with leadership to understand and interpret the impacts to cost and quality of proposals using relevant data sources and analytic methods.
Helps drive the implementation of new products and systems by providing actionable information and recommendations that evaluate the impact of the proposed products and systems.
Represents the division on corporate projects and may have leadership roles on these teams.
Independentlymanages issues that may arise on multiple tasks or projects with limited or no management involvement.
Acts as a resource and/or mentor for other members of the department and company on business issues and may be responsible for training and guidance of other employees.
Formulates strategic recommendations and presents findings to management and external clients.
Serves as an analytic consultant who can explain complex measurement or analysis techniques and results in layman's terms.
Required Skills and Experiences:
7+ years of related professional experience. All relevant experience including work, education, transferable skills, and military experience will be considered.
5 years experience analyzing and modeling data involving outcomes and utilization, using various statistical software and computer programming (SAS, Visual Basic, DB2, Oracle, etc.).
Proficiency in Microsoft software applications such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access.
Demonstrated ability to design, evaluate and interpret complex data sets.
Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks with competing priorities.
Demonstrated analytic and problems solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interpret and communicate analytical information to both individuals and groups in a clear and concise manner.
Demonstrated ability to present complex technical information to non-technical audiences and to senior decision-makers.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and in a team setting with individuals having diverse professional backgrounds including business, technical and/clinical.
Nice to Have:
Bachelor's Degree or Master's degree in Finance, Economics, Healthcare Administration or related field. Advance degree preferred.
Actuarial experience is a plus.
Extensive experience in financial modeling, specifically in developing savings and projection models.
Strong technical skills in SAS, SQL, R, and Python.
Experience in healthcare analytics; with a strong preference for experience in medical and pharmacy claims.
Proficient with Power BI Service for creating, sharing, collaboration, and managing reports and dashboards across the organization.
Ability to query and analyze data independently.
Excellent presentation and communication skills, capable of presenting to various audiences, including VPs.
Compensation and Benefits:
Pay Range: $98,600.00 - $133,100.00 - $167,600.00 Annual
Pay is based on several factors which vary based on position, including skills, ability, and knowledge the selected individual is bringing to the specific job.
