How Is This Role Important to Our Work?

The Director of Trend Analytics will support all lines of business by using data and trend analytics to educate key stakeholders about trends, inform financial results and forecasting, develop claim trend projections to support product pricing, assess future financial risk, and identify opportunities to improve medical cost and utilization for the health plan. This individual will be integral in shaping the Trend Analytics Practice at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota.

A Day in the Life:

  • Lead a trend analytics team and process which looks at market segment, network, provider, member, and condition to identify key sources of variability and trend.

  • Monitors key performance indicators, regulatory landscape, industry trends, and changes within vended solutions and external partners in order to provide in-depth analysis of market trends to key stakeholders including BCBSMN senior leadership.

  • Based on the work above, design a system that highlights historical key trend drivers and forecasts emerging areas for the organization to plan around.

  • Provides an analytic perspective in collaborative, cross-segment efforts to manage claims, including the interaction with other departments such as Medical Management, Affordability of Care, Pharmacy, Commercial Markets, Government Markets, Finance, Network Management, Public Affairs and Legal.

  • Develop new innovative measures, comparative benchmarks, and visualization techniques that consistently turn our data into actionable insights.

  • Help the organization make data driven decisions based on actionable insights and interpret trends found in the data.

  • Drives the adoption of analytical tools and methodologies to stay ahead of market trends.

  • Directs the department including interviewing and hiring employees following required EEO and Affirmative Action guidelines and ensuring employees receive the accurate training.

  • Conducts performance evaluation, and is responsible for managing employees, including skill and career development, policy administration, coaching on performance management and behavior, employee relations and cost control.

Nice to Have:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Masters' degree preferred.

  • Experience with SAS, SQL and other cloud-based technologies

Required Skills and Experiences:

  • Accepting this director level position at BCBSMN requires signing an Employee Confidentiality, Intellectual Property Assignment and Restrictive Covenants Agreement as a condition of employment.

  • 7+ years of related professional experience. All relevant experience including work, education, transferable skills, and military experience will be considered.

  • Experience working with healthcare data, both structured and unstructured including a demonstrated ability to design, evaluate and interpret complex data sets.

  • Experience within trend analytics.

  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and juggling multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • 3 years of leadership experience including managing staff.

  • Strategic with the ability to align and translate complex analytics with business objectives and actionable solutions.

  • Demonstrated analytic and problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex problems and solutions in simple language that all can understand.

  • Ability to work in a team environment that is matrixed.

  • Ability to work across all areas of the business.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Ability to perform validation techniques, as well as perform and interpret a variety of statistical analyses.
