The Impact You Will Have
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota is looking for an Associate System Engineer to join our Directory Services team! The Associate System Engineer – Directory Services is an early‑career role designed for individuals who are eager to grow their skills in identity and access management. In this position, you will support the design, security, and day‑to‑day operations of enterprise directory platforms—including Entra ID (Azure Active Directory), Active Directory, and related identity technologies.
You’ll help ensure reliable authentication, authorization, and directory services across both cloud and on‑prem environments. Working closely with senior engineers and cross‑functional teams (security, networking, cloud, and applications), you’ll gain hands‑on experience with secure integrations, identity operations, and modern cloud‑based identity practices.
This role includes assisting with:
- Administration of Conditional Access, MFA, and identity governance controls
- Directory health monitoring, performance upkeep, and basic automation
- Troubleshooting authentication and access issues
- Backup, disaster recovery, and continuity activities
- Documentation of configurations, integrations, and operational procedures
- Entra service principal governance and lifecycle management
You’ll also have opportunities to contribute to modernization initiatives such as cloud‑first identity strategies, Entra ID governance enhancements, and implementation of identity governance tools like SailPoint. This is an excellent role for candidates who are passionate about identity, security, and cloud technologies and who want hands‑on experience in an enterprise environment.
Your Responsibilities
Performs support and maintenance on existing systems and documentation.
Analyzes customer requirements for new or existing projects to determine feasibility and time required.
Develops moderate to complex infrastructure interactions to ensure the security, stability, recoverability, and access to systems and information.
Participates in cross-functional initiatives on the development and implementation of enterprise-wide major installations, upgrades and process changes.
Facilitates knowledge sharing by creating and maintaining detailed, comprehensive documentation and diagrams.
Tracks industry trends and maintains knowledge of new technologies to better serve the enterprise architecture needs.
Performs systems support activities and may include required participation in an on-call rotation for support of systems outside of normal business hours.
Participates in structured cross-functional processes including architecture, change, risk, resiliency, incident, problem, CMDB, and asset management.
Required Skills and Experience
2+ years' related experience or Bachelor’s degree. All relevant experience including work, education, transferable skills, and military experience will be considered.
1 year experience in an IT capability/technology.
Cloud Service Provider Certification (e.g., AWS Cloud Practitioner, Azure Fundamentals, etc.) – required within 1 year of employment
Acquiring basic knowledge of infrastructure design, implementation, administration, planning, developing.
Acquiring basic knowledge of technical, business, and industry.
Developing oral and written communication and presentation skills.
Developing human relations skills to effectively interact with leadership and management, peers, business partners and vendors.
Developing basic skills at systems, creative, critical and analytical thinking, decision making and problem solving.
Developing basic understanding of the standards and deliverables to ensure integrity of the systems engineering process.
Acquiring basic knowledge of internal area applications.
Developing skills at hands-on communication, collaboration and leadership.
High school diploma (or equivalency) and legal authorization to work in the U.S.
Preferred Skills & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related field.
Microsoft Certified: Identity and Access Administrator (SC‑300)
Compensation and Benefits:
Pay Range: $68,900.00 - $91,300.00 - $113,700.00 Annual
Pay is based on several factors which vary based on position, including skills, ability, and knowledge the selected individual is bringing to the specific job.
