The Impact You Will Have
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota is hiring a Senior Accountant in Eagan, MN. The Senior Accountant ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial records by preparing and reviewing moderately complex journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and supporting month-end and year-end close processes. This role performs analysis, investigates discrepancies, and partners with stakeholders to improve processes while maintaining compliance with GAAP, statutory accounting principles, and internal controls. Senior Accountants work independently on assigned areas and contribute to audits and special projects across the organization.
What You’ll Do
- Support the month-end and year-end financial close processes by preparing journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and related schedules.
- Maintain key accounting controls and deliverables that support accurate consolidated financial reporting.
- Coordinate third-party vendor payments and investigate discrepancies to support timely, accurate resolution.
- Provide documentation and accounting support for internal, external, and regulatory audits, annual statutory filings, and quarterly reporting.
How You’ll Do It
- Compile and analyze financial data to prepare accurate and timely journal entries.
- Prepare, record, and analyze month-end accruals; perform calculations and supporting reconciliations to ensure completeness and accuracy.
- Support month-end and year-end processes by managing assigned responsibilities and ensuring timely, accurate completion of related financial schedules.
- Perform and document moderately complex account reconciliations; investigate and resolve variances promptly.
- Support internal, external, and regulatory audits by providing documentation and acting as a resource.
- Perform monthly and quarterly balance sheet variance analysis for assigned accounts, explain drivers, and collaborate with stakeholders to address issues.
- Investigate discrepancies and perform ad hoc analysis and reporting; identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
- Partner with stakeholders to drive process improvement and automation.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, statutory accounting principles, internal controls, and corporate accounting policies; maintain documentation and update procedures as required.
- Assist with new product and business line setup as needed; design accounting flows, controls, documentation and refine processes as products mature.
Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of related accounting professional experience.
- Bachelor’s degree; in lieu of a degree, an additional two years of relevant experience beyond the qualifications listed above may be accepted.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Ability to communicate complex topics clearly and concisely, actively listen to anticipate stakeholder needs, and align others to drive informed decisions.
- Ability to analyze complex information, evaluate options, and work cross-functionally to drive resolution and prevent recurrence.
- Ability to effectively organize work, balance competing priorities, and manage time across complex assignments and competing deadlines.
- Healthcare or health insurance industry experience.• Experience with SAP.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP and STAT).
- Experience with consolidation reporting across multiple entities.

Compensation and Benefits:
Pay Range: $68,900.00 - $91,300.00 - $113,700.00 Annual
Pay is based on several factors which vary based on position, including skills, ability, and knowledge the selected individual is bringing to the specific job.
