Day in the life: Dan Bliss

Our associates bring our mission to life every day. Dan Bliss, Principal Scrum Master, is a great example of how curiosity and collaboration drive meaningful outcomes for our members and our business.

Dan’s role is all about connecting strategy to action, ensuring that teams have the tools and knowledge they need to succeed.

One of Dan’s accomplishments this year was launching our Agile-certified Product Ownership course. This work has produced six cohorts, making 70 associates eligible for certification. Blue Cross Minnesota is the first Blues plan to build an externally certified product training course entirely in-house.

The key to the team’s success? Teamwork. Instead of trying to teach everything directly, they made space for learners to learn from each other.

Dan says the most rewarding part of his job is seeing how his efforts help associates and members thrive.

“This project really reflects the best of Blue Cross MN: innovation, empowerment, and a commitment to helping people thrive,” he shared. “This class teaches people how to think of their work in new ways, focusing on the valuable outcomes we drive and the human beings we deliver those outcomes to.” 

Outside of his core responsibilities, Dan is passionate about empowering teams and individuals to discover their capability through immersive learning and cultures of fun. He believes that growth happens when we learn together, and he actively looks for ways to foster collaboration across teams. 

Blue Cross empowers associates like Dan to innovate and lead, creating a culture where ideas turn into action. His story reminds us that transformation is not just about processes, it's about people working together to achieve something bigger.
