Day in the Life: Cameo Pallesen

Clinical Guide Cameo Pallesen comes to work every day with a unique perspective. She knows she can make a major difference in the lives of our members because of her own experience as a member years ago. Cameo saw first-hand the role Blue Cross played as her mom navigated the healthcare system for life-saving care that wouldn’t bankrupt her family.

When Cameo was in seventh grade, her mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was a devastating development in their lives. The family was covered by the Blue Cross health plan through her father’s employer that provided Cameo’s mother with access to outstanding medical care. After surgeries and multiple radiation services, her mom was later given the “all clear.”

“I had seen how great it was from the member side as I watched Blue Cross support my mom through her cancer diagnosis,” Cameo said. “Now I get to see how great it is as an employee.”

That makes her daily work very, very personal.

As a Clinical Guide, Cameo fields incoming calls from members, providers and from customer service. She’s on the front lines of our business, assessing urgent needs and concerns while aiming to answer questions from those critically important stakeholders. In addition, she’s also evaluating for Case Management and making referrals, while also providing links to resources, education and other assistance on an as-needed basis.

Cameo approaches her day-to-day with the grace of someone who has been on the other end of the phone and understands the struggles our members face daily.

“I want everyone to feel as valued and cared for as we have as a family,” Cameo said. “We’ve never felt alone in my mom’s health journey. I want to give that same kind of feeling to my members and let them know they are not alone and that we are here to help.”
