Description Summary

As a member of the Market Strategy & Intelligence Team, the Strategy Consultant Principal will partner with Health Plan senior leaders and business partners to develop the company’s multiyear commercial markets segment plans.  This member will also collaborate with the Enterprise Strategy Office and the Health Plan senior leaders to ensure strategic alignment between the Enterprise strategy and the Health Plan strategy.  The incumbent will facilitate the segment strategy discussions and scenario planning by incorporating market intel insights and financial analysis into the business plans to identify priorities required to achieve strategic objectives.  This position will also be responsible for collaborating with key business partners to ensure strategic alignment of the annual plan, financial plan, business development and program management activities. 


Accountabilities


  • Lead the development of BCBSM's multi-year segment strategic plan, business planning and business strategy development

  • Conduct scenario planning and develop strategies to position company for success in a changing health care environment

  • Incorporate financial analysis to ensure rigorous strategic plans that will result in a healthy business plan to achieve overall Enterprise goals

  • Ensure alignment of business strategies with the company’s strategic direction and plan, by facilitating strategic planning sessions with business partners to develop working roadmaps with key actions, milestones, timelines and accountabilities

  • Conduct regular review meetings with senior management to assess strategy performance and identify corrective action, developing presentations and materials to facilitate this process

  • Perform strategic analysis of existing strategies, business performance, and key initiatives and provide recommendations to address issues and gaps

  • Ensure linkage of strategic plan to downstream planning, business development and program management activities

  • Develop key strategy communications, presentations and materials tailored to executive management, Board of Directors and key stakeholders

  • Partner with Market Insights team to create shared understanding of key healthcare industry trends, market dynamics, and competitive landscape to inform business and strategic planning and decisions

  • Design and help facilitate strategy forums or reviews with executives and senior leadership (deep dive analysis on specific topics, challenges and opportunities, and strategy performance)

  • Assess, monitor, and report on performance of strategic plan using best practice methods and tools to ensure timely action to course correct as needed

  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Market Strategy and Intel or the Chief Strategy Officer


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with concentration in business or a related field.

  • 8+ years’ experience and expertise in one or more or a combination of the following areas: management consulting, corporate/strategic planning, corporate/business development, innovation, consumer engagement, delivery system strategy, or health management strategy.

  • 3+ years’ combined experience in health care, pharmacy, retail health, medical device or consumer goods.  

  • Strong knowledge and experience in identifying and recommending alternative business models for cost reduction, revenue growth and margin improvement opportunities  

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

  • Strong problem-solving skills exhibited by the ability to approach complex, ambiguous business issues with creative ideas and solutions.

  • Excellent PowerPoint skills with the ability to create compelling documents with a clear storyline, tailored to executive leadership and key stakeholders.

  • Proven ability to communicate complex issues simply and concisely; tailor style, level and approach to audience; advanced executive level facilitation and presentation skills.

  • Proven ability to establish trust, gain credibility, and build relationships with key constituents (internal leaders and experts across the organization).

  • Ability to navigate ambiguity in a complex, matrixed environment.

  • Must be a strategic thinker, with a high level of intellectual curiosity and openness to change.

  • Self-motivated, takes initiative, and continuously seeks ways to improve.

  • Analytical and detail oriented, with ability to leverage data and analysis to inform strategic decisions and prioritization.

  • Demonstrated track record of results with proven ability to manage multiple priorities within strict and changing timelines.

  • Creativity in developing effective responses and strategies to address competitive challenges.  

  • Ideal candidate will have in depth consulting and/or strategy experience within the health care industry.


Preferred Requirements

Preferred Requirements· MBA or CFA or other advanced degree.




  • 5+ years of management consulting and client delivery experience at a leading strategy consulting firm.

  • Demonstrated experience and success in developing and implementing strategies and solutions to evolve consumer experience and business model to a business to consumer (B2C) orientation.
