At Blue Cross, you’ll have one of the most comprehensive benefits, compensation and total rewards packages around to keep you and your family healthy and to plan for your financial future. Medical coverage

Blue Cross offers a wide variety of medical plans to meet your needs. The number of medical plan choices is above and beyond what other companies offer their employees. Each plan has different premium amounts for the employee contribution, with the company covering approximately 85 percent of the overall plan cost.

Dental coverage

Choose from two dental plans; both include 100 percent coverage for preventive care. One plan has a modest premium while the other plan is offered free of charge to employees (Blue Cross pays the entire plan cost).

Life insurance plans

You’ll automatically receive life insurance equal to your annual pay or $50,000, whichever is greater, as no cost to you (Blue Cross pays the entire cost of this employee benefit). If desired, you can buy additional life insurance coverage for you and your family.

Flexible spending accounts

With a convenient medical and dependent-care spending accounts, you can set aside money from your paycheck to pay for eligible out-of-pocket expenses. You do not pay taxes on the money you put into your account.

Disability protection

Our long-term and short-term disability options protect your income if you can’t work because of an illness or injury. Blue Cross pays the entire cost of these benefits; employees who have worked at Blue Cross less than five years may buy additional short-term disability (beyond the company-paid coverage), if desired.

Pension Plan, 401(k) plan and other retirement benefits

Blue Cross offers many ways to help you secure your future:

  • Our Pension Plan is open to all employees after three years of service. At a time when many companies have done away with pension plans, Blue Cross offers one that doesn’t cost employees a penny. The Blue Cross Pension Plan is totally funded by the company, providing employees with a stable benefit at retirement.
  • Our 401(k) plan lets you save up to 35 percent of your pay through payroll deduction (subject to IRS limitations) either pre-tax, post-tax or a combination of both.
  • Blue Cross matches “dollar for dollar” up to the first 3 percent you contribute to the 401(k) plan. We then match 50 cents on the dollar for the next 2 percent. You are immediately vested in the company match.
  • Employees age 50 and above may be eligible to make additional catch-up contributions to the 401(k) plan.
  • For employees who meet age and service requirements, we also offer several retiree medical plan options.


You earn paid time off (PTO) each pay period, based on your years of service. Use it however you wish. You also get 8 paid holidays each year. Plus, you receive 20 paid hours of volunteer paid time-off (VPTO) each year — after you’ve been here six months — making it easy to give back to the community while saving your PTO time for you and your family.

For hourly employees:

  • 0-4 years = 140 hours
  • 5-9 years = 180 hours
  • 10-24 years = 220 hours
  • 25+ years = 260 hours

For salaried employees:

  • 0-9 years = 180 hours
  • 10-24 years = 220 hours
  • 25+ years = 260 hours
